About The Alliance

Our Organization

The New Jersey Alliance of Family Support Organizations seeks to strengthen and promote the wellness of families with children and youth who have emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges by serving as a catalyst and capacity-builder for family support and empowerment organizations.

The Alliance was incorporated as a separate 501(c)3 in December, 2003, in order to provide leadership and support to the statewide network of Family Support Organizations and other family serving organizations that represent families raising children with emotional, behavioral or mental health challenges. Aspects of our work include supporting the Family Movement through:

  • Empowerment
  • Outreach
  • Providing Forums
  • Providing Referral/Resources
  • Organizing Conferences
  • Providing technical assistance and training
  • Effecting systemic change
  • Making local, state and national connections

The Alliance, who employs and is governed by parents/caregivers, was empowered to recruit and train new Boards of Trustees for the individual Family Support Organizations in upcoming counties/regions, and provide training and technical assistance to all of the Family Support Organizations in New Jersey. The Alliance has focused primarily on startup work and training of the Family Support Partners.

The NJ Alliance of Family Support provides training and technical assistance to help the Family Support Organization offices provide one-on-one, peer-to-peer support for families receiving Care Management services through the New Jersey Division of Child Behavioral Health Services. Each of the Family Support Organization offices help families in their communities who have children with emotional, behavioral or mental health needs by providing Support Groups, Educational Forums, Events for families, Warm-lines (telephone help lines) for reassurance and information, Youth Partnership programs and opportunities for family leadership and parent/professional partnerships.

The New Jersey Alliance of Family Support Organizations receives funding from the New Jersey Department of Human Services to ensure that the highest quality child-centered and family friendly approaches to care management service delivery are created and maintained throughout New Jersey.

The NJ Alliance of Family Support provides leadership and support to the statewide network of Family Support Organizations that represent families raising children with emotional, behavioral or mental health challenges.
